Artist Statement
“I often find myself caught between the expectations imposed on me by my femininity and my desires to be deeply and unapologetically seen. I think my art mimics that. You can see my desires to flow, to change shape, to adhere and appease in my watercolor and oil paintings; the soft colors blending into one another by gentle touch. My ideal Self is reflected.
In contrast my acrylic and collage based works seem to reject the very idea of being contained as something palatable. They seem to scream a shadowed variety of powerfully embodied emotions, exclaiming “Look at me! Feel me! I am angry! I am powerful! I am playful!” I often find myself smirking at the visuals I allow myself to pour into and onto the canvas.
It is in my fluid mediums that I live, and in my mixed media that I heal.”

Artist Bio
Logan Brantley is an expressionist painter who lives and works in San Diego, California. A native North Carolinian, Logan’s watercolor work is reminiscent of the serenity found along its coastal land. As a mental health professional, Logan’s relationship with the shadowed & vibrant parts of Self are uniquely brought to life and integrated within her whimsical 2D artforms.
In Logan’s experience sitting with others' stories, Logan finds that visualization and art making are particularly helpful in describing and creating possibilities around experiences people may otherwise not have words for. As a mental health informed artist, Logan offers art integration classes/workshops to support communities learning, processing and healing from toxic stress.
In her personal artistry, Logan titrates between an array of media for various storytellings of her own. Watercolors and oils are relaxing and romantic mediums that escape the viewer to a dreamy experience of peace and femininity. In contrast Logan’s more opaque and collage mediums allude to complicated constructs and struggles with emotional embodiment.
Because art creates a cycle of release and tension for Logan, she often works on multiple ideas at once. Currently, she is focusing on two series: “What it Means to be a Woman”, and “Postcards from San Diego” which feature original poems and landscapes. Logan is also working towards writing and illustrating a children’s book highlighting the healing process from traumatic stress.
In 2019, Logan’s first children’s book illustrations were released within “The Adventures of You: New Moon Zoom” written by Wees A. Bacon. Logan has received activism awards such as the “Insoo Kim Berg Award for Most Contribution to Social Work Practice” after curating “Do Tell? Trauma Awareness Art Exhibit” in 2018. Logan received her Masters in Social Work ‘18 and Bachelors of Psychology and Studio Art ‘16 from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
